Abstract
Teratoma is uncommon tumor and the majority of cases are seen in neonate period. The most common teratoma is sacrococcygeal teratoma and more common in female. Treatment of sacrococcygeal teratoma is complete surgical excision and adjuvant
chemoherapy
and radiation therapy are needed in case of malignancy.
@ES We obtained following results :
1) Female was affected 3.7 times more than male and the most common age group was newborn period(38%).
2) The most common symptom was sacrococcygeal mass(97%) and the others were abdominal distension, defection difficulty and urination difficulty.
3) The associate anomalies were congenital heart disease(3 cases) and urethrovaginl fistula(1 case).
4) The mean size of tumor was 7.2 cm in diameter.
Malignancy were 8 cases and others were benign. The average age of malignant cases was 22.3 months old and that of benign cases was 8.3 months.
5) 37 patients were managed with sacrococcygeal approach 4 patients with combined sacroabdominal approach and 1 patient with biopsy.
6) Blood transfusion was needed in 16 cases(38%) and average amount was 160cc.
7) Postoperative complications were ocurred in 2 cases, 1 wound infection and 2 sensory and motor disturbance of right lower extremity.
8) The preoperative ¥á-FP level was normal in benign cases, but that was elevated in all malignant cases. After curative resection, ¥á-FP level was normalized in nonrecurred cases but that was elevated in recurred cases.
9) In benign cases, there was no recerrence after curative resection. But in malignant cases, 2 cases were recurred (28%) after curative resection and adjuvant chemotherapy.
